Benefits of Liver Detox Tea

The importance of the liver and how liver detox tea supports the liver

In my opinion, a healthy liver is a vital component of good health.   We should really call the liver the chemical factory of the body, as it performs so many vital elimination tasks - detoxifying wastes and toxins from the body.  It truly is the hardest working organ in the body and when it isn’t functioning well so many other bodily processes are affected.  A healthy functioning liver is vital for good health.

The liver sits in the right upper abdomen under your ribcage,  and is involved in many important bodily processes – the synthesis of serum proteins, plus hormones and growth factors, and  production of bile.  It stores glycogen, converts fructose and galactose into glucose from the food we eat and plays a huge role in carbohydrate metabolism.  It is our most important organ for metabolising drugs and alcohol.

The liver plays a significant role in maintaining normal blood glucose concentrations, clears excess oestrogen from the body,  and also is involved in fat and protein metabolism – so many reasons to look after your liver well!

I guess we all know someone who took on a yellowish hue, down to the whites of their eyes, when they had liver issues.  New-borns are often jaundiced while their livers get going after birth.  When the liver is not working properly  toxins escape back into the body. This is a risk factor for disease – chronic, acute and/or  deadly serious.  Many people struggle with their weight, particularly as they age – a sure sign of a liver that is not doing  it’s job properly.

Did you know that your liver also stores vitamins A,D and B12, plus Vitamin K, iron and folate?

Think about it,  we meet toxins daily. In the air we breathe, the food we eat, cigarette smoking or second hand smoke, alcohol, environmental pollutants and chemicals.  Our diets are not as good as they could be – obesity is on the rise and  health statistics paint a grim picture.  It is interesting that primitive cultures tend not to suffer from cancer, heart disease, hypertension or obesity because they have hunted, grown food, and eaten simply.

I am a big fan of treating the liver right on a continual basis by eating well, limiting alcohol, healthy lifestyles choices.  Bashing your liver, and then going on a stringent detox regime can be very unpleasant and you can feel quite unwell as your body detoxes.

Ingredients

Dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale radix) is universally recognised for its role in supporting the liver. Dandelion contains bitter substances such as taraxacin, inulin (a bitter glycoside), taraxanthin, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, and levulin. These bitters can assist the digestive glands and the liver, which can encourage the healthy flow of bile.

Globe Artichoke leaf (Cynara scolymus folia) contains strong antioxidants that support healthy digestion, liver and gallbladder function. This, in turn, can support healthy cholesterol levels.

Peppermint (Mentha piperita folia) can help your body respond to digestive problems such as bloating, gas, spasms and nausea. It may assist in the cleansing roles of the liver and gallbladder. Historically, it has also been used to prevent gallstones.

Rosemary Leaf (Rosmarinus officinalis) supports your body's response to digestion problems and can provide comfort during heartburn, intestinal gas (flatulence), liver and gallbladder discomfort, and loss of appetite.

Schisandra Berries (Schisandra chinensis) can support your body's maintenance of a healthy liver.

St. Mary’s Thistle (Silybum marianum) is used to assist the healthy function of your liver and gallbladder. Extracts from the plant support your body during liver cell regrowth, and help your liver to protect against toxins. A unique herb due to its ability to assist with detoxification, and promote a strong and healthy liver.
